UKRAINE
June 4-8, 2007 - Kyiv
Advanced Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) for Adults in Correctional Settings
With this training Ukrainian healthcare workers from penitentiary system will complete full educational course on ART. It is expected that improved knowledge on management of ART, its side effects, interactions with other therapies, treatment of major opportunistic infections - will enable caregivers from penitentiary system to provide professional assistance to HIV-infected inmates who need ART. Training will be conducted within Round 1 Global Fund program in Ukraine.
June 11-15, 2007 - Kyiv
ART for Intravenous Drug Users (IDUs) undergoing Substitution Therapy (ST)
It is envisaged that multidisciplinary teams consisting of infection disease doctor, narcologist and two social workers (from AIDS Center and from narcological dispensary) from Kherson, Vinnytsia and Poltava will participate in this training. The goal is to teach them on peculiarities of combined therapies: antiretroviral, substitution and anti-tuberculosis (TB). Training target group will learn how to work together in order to provide full-scale care and support for injecting drug users who are HIV-infected. Training will be conducted within Round 1 Global Fund program in Ukraine.
June 18-27, 2007 - Dnipropetrovsk Oblast
On-site mentoring on ART for Adults
During this mentoring visit Knowledge Hub and Clinton Foundation will conduct clinical sessions for caregivers from Dnipropetrovsk region to examine patients who are going to start ART, or who are already on ART and either developed side effects or other complications related to ART. The mentoring sites include Dnipropetrovsk, Kriviy Rih, Ternivka and Nikopol. Dr Ben Young, MD, Colorado, and Oksana Holub, MD, Kyiv, will be the faculty at this on-site mentoring. Mentoring will be conducted within framework of Knowledge Hub cooperation with Clinton Foundation.
July 9-13 and August 27-31, 2007 - Odessa
Initiation of Pediatric ART
Sponsored by UNICEF/Ukraine, these courses will provide an opportunity for Ukrainian doctors, nurses, and social workers to improve their clinical skills related to ART for children living with HIV/AIDS. A strong emphasis will be placed on general principles of pediatric ART, child assessments and counseling before drug administration, criteria for starting ART according to WHO and national protocols, drug regimens and dosages, follow-up services for children receiving ART, and post-exposure prophylaxis, among many other critical topics. Three Moldova multidisciplinary pediatric care teams will join Ukrainian caregivers for the training course in August. Their participation will be funded by UNICEF/Moldova.
MOLDOVA
June 18-22, 2007 - Kyiv
Initiation of ART for Adults
It will be second time that caregivers from Moldova will participate in AIDS Knowledge Hub trainings organized in Lavra Clinic. Supported by WHO Moldova Office this course aims to increase trainees' knowledge on antiviral drugs, indications of ART for naive patients, various aspects of its management as well as treatment of major opportunistic infections (OIs). Special attention will be paid to developing participants' counseling skills and their ability to work in groups.
KYRGYZSTAN
July 2-6, 2007 - Kyiv
Initiation of ART for Adults
Doctors, nurses and social workers from Kyrgyzstan will participate in this course to learn about ART and treatment of opportunistic infections management. Dr.Antoniak from Lavra Clinic and Dr.Khaykin from Frankfurt-on-Main University Clinic will conduct 5-day course, which includes both didactical and clinical practice sessions. Training will be funded by WHO.

Initiation of ART for Adults in Altay region, Kemerovo oblast, BRATISLAVA and Global Fund program
In a follow up to the training of trainers held on November 7-14 in St. Petersburg for twelve Global Fund (GFATM)/ Russian Health Care Foundation (RHCF) regions, AIHA and the St. Petersburg Medical Academy of Postgraduate Studies will implement local training on Initiation of ART for adults for 25 local specialists in Kemerovo oblast. Two AIDS Training and Education Center (ATEC) faculty (St Petersburg Medical Academy of Postgraduate Studies (MAPS) and faculty from the MAPS in Kemerovo region will be co-teaching the training course certified by St. Petersburg MAPS.

Initiation of ART for Adults in Altay region, Barnaul, BRATISLAVA and Global Fund program
In a follow up to the training of trainers held on November 7-14 in St. Petersburg for twelve GFATM/RHCF regions, AIHA and the St Petersburg Medical Academy of Postgraduate Studies will implement local training on Initiation of ART for adults for 25 local specialists in the Altay region. Two ATEC faculty (St Petersburg MAPS) and faculty from the MAPS in the Altay region will be co-teaching the training course certified by St. Petersburg MAPS.

TB/HIV Clinical Course, Orenburg, Training Care and Support (TCS) program
Following the pilot training conducted in St. Petersburg in September 2006 AIHA is to conduct training in Orenburg (based at Orenburg Oblast TB Dispensary, TB/HIV unit) to cover clinical aspects of managing co-infected patients by HIV and TB doctors. Participants are to include HIV and TB doctors from Orenburg and replication sites (Orsk, Novotroitsk, Gai), total of 25, responsible for direct management of HIV patients co-infected with TB. Three US partner from Elmhurst will participate as faculty and follow-up with participants with patient consultations and case discussions

Intro to ART Training, St. Petersburg, Training Care and Support (TCS) program
As part of AIHA's workplan to support scale up of ARV services in the city of St. Petersburg, and following the training if chief infectionists from 19 districts of St. Petersburg in February AIHA will conduct a training for 25 St. Petersburg district policlinic infectionists, utilizing the course on Initiation of ART in adults originally developed by AIHA and piloted through the St. Petersburg ATEC. This four-day course will be held at the AIDS Center with faculty from the MAPS, AIDS Center and TB hospital.

Primary Care and Tolerance Building Workshop, St. Petersburg, Training Care and Support (TCS) program
This workshop for district-based primary care providers is to be conducted for 20 general practitioners and nurses from district polyclinics of St. Petersburg. Topics include epidemiological and clinical information on HIV, patient communication skills, identification of common OIs, attitudes toward PLWHA, stigma and discrimination issues, infection control. This first workshop in a series of district level seminars has been conducted by a team of trainers trained in the first phase of the project: a physician, a nurse and a psychologist from the AIDS Center and narcology dispensary.

April 2-6, 2007 - Dnipropetrovsk
Initiation of Antiretroviral Therapy for Adults
This course was introductory for the care teams (doctor, nurse and social worker) from city AIDS Centers located in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. During clinical and interactive clinical sessions participants learned about management of ART, its side effects, interactions with other therapies, treatment of major opportunistic infections, adherence. The training was organized within the framework of Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative project aimed at increasing workforce potential of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast in response to HIV/AIDS. Training was funded by Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative.

Introduction to HIV Care
Twenty-four health care providers from Dnipropetrovsk rayon hospitals attended this training. Under supervision of Dr Erik Fleischman, MD, HIV/AIDS Consultant, Clinton Foundation; Dr Yaroslava Lopatina, MD, Lavra Clinic, Kyiv, and Tetyana Savina, Nurse, Lavra Clinic, Kyiv, the trainees went through theory and practice in symptoms of HIV-infection, laboratory diagnostics, most common skin and genital tract infections (GTI) manifestations. Interactive sessions and role pays the trainees better understanding of how to counsel patient before HIV testing and after it. Training was funded by Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative.

April 23-27, 2007 - Minsk
Advanced ART for Adults
The participants from Minsk, Gomel and Pinsk infection disease hospitals reinforced their knowledge on such ART topics as switching ART regimens, diagnosing and treatment of opportunistic infections, methods of increasing patient's adherence to ART. Special attention was paid to treatment of HIV-associated tuberculosis (TB) and chronic infections in injecting drug users. Training was funded by WHO.

Case Management System Development mission
The Knowledge Hub expert Linda Brandt, Executive Director, Rural AIDS Action Network, and Zoya Shabarova, Eurasia Regional HIV/AIDS Coordinator, AIHA, conducted one day mission to Estonia to discuss with national stakeholders and WHO country office the existing social support infrastructure for HIV care and the potential for introduction of case management function in Estonian AIDS services and outline a related training curricula. The mission was supported by funding from WHO/EURO.

Initiation of ART for Adults (ATEC-St. Petersburg)
In a follow up to the training of trainers held on November 7-14 in St Petersburg for twelve GFATM/RHCF regions, ATEC-St Petersburg conducted local training on Initiation of ART for adults for 27 local specialists in Sverdlovsk oblast. Two ATEC faculty (St Petersburg MAPS) and 2 faculty from Yekaterinburg co-taught the training course.

Course on Initiation of ART for Adults in Bashkortostan Republic (ATEC-St. Petersburg)
The AIDS Training and Education Center (ATEC) in St. Petersburg, a Knowledge Hub Affiliate, with funding from the Russian Health Care Foundation, implemented a local training on Initiation of ART for adults for 25 local HIV/AIDS specialists in Bashkortostan. Two ATEC faculty (St. Petersburg MAPS) and two faculty from the MAPS in Ufa city conducted the training course in a follow up to the training of trainers held on November 7-14 in St. Petersburg for twelve GFATM/RHCF regions.
March 19-23, 2007 - St. Petersburg
Training-of-Trainers (ToT) on Palliative Care (ATEC-St. Petersburg)
Two international faculty and one national expert from the Federal AIDS Center of Russian Federation conducted a TOT for the course on palliative care in HIV/AIDS for 26 participants. The course also included clinical sessions conducted at in-patient unit of City AIDS Center and St.Petersburg MAPS affiliated geriatrics department.
March 19-23, 2007 - Irkutsk
TOT on Intro to ART for Irkutsk MAPS and Medical University faculty (BRATISLAVA program)
One faculty from the St. Petersburg ATEC and AIHA faculty (Dr Howard Grossman, New York) conducted a five-day TOT for 26 Irkutsk faculty from MAPS and Medical University, in an effort to develop an AIDS Training and Education Center in Irkutsk for the Siberian region. Discussions with schools and the Irkutsk AIDS Center continued on the development of a clinical site for the Siberian ATEC trainings.
March 26-30, 2007 - Perm oblast
Initiation of ART for Adults (ATEC-St. Petersburg)
The ATEC-St. Petersburg, with funding from the Russian Health Care Foundation, implemented a local training on Initiation of ART for adults for 27 local HIV/AIDS specialists in Perm Oblast. Two ATEC faculty and 2 faculty from the MAPS in Perm conducted the training course in a follow up to the training of trainers held on November 7-14 in St. Petersburg for twelve GFATM/RHCF regions.
April 9-13, 2007 - Saratov oblast
Initiation of ART for Adults (ATEC-St. Petersburg)
The ATEC-St. Petersburg, with funding from the Russian Health Care Foundation, implemented a local training on Initiation of ART for adults for 29 local HIV/AIDS specialists in Saratov Oblast. Two ATEC faculty and 2 faculty from the MAPS in Saratov conducted the training course in a follow up to the training of trainers held on November 7-14 in St Petersburg for twelve GFATM/RHCF regions.
April 16-19, 2007 - Irkutsk
Training for Prison Medical Workers, Irkutsk, Regional Hub (RH) in Prisons project
This four-day training was held for physicians and nurses from three penal colonies in Bozoi, as well as hospitals in Orda and Irkutsk on STIs, psycho-social issues, domestic violence. Three international trainers (Dr.Cynthia Miller, MD, Mary Anker, RN from Albany Medical Center's AIDS Program (AMCAP) and its Center of Excellence in HIV Correctional Health Care, and Alexei Kral'ko, MD, from Department of Corrections of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus) and three Russian trainers (Tatyana Evlampieva from International Federation of Red Cross, Alina Krasovskaya and Ekaterina Dvorak, trainers of Irkutsk Red Cross).

TOT for Non-Medical Prison Staff and Red Cross Volunteers,
Irkutsk, Regional Hub (RH) in Prisons project
This three-day TOT was conducted for non-medical prison staff and volunteers of the Irkutsk Red Cross and focused on STIs, HIV, improved coverage of RH services and PMTCT general knowledge. Regional Workshop on Post-Graduate HIV/AIDS Education and Training
(ATEC-St. Petersburg)
The Workshop was held at the ATEC-St. Petersburg with support from WHO-EURO, GTZ and AIHA/USAID for faculty members from key CIS post-graduate medical institutes including Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. Led by 3 faculty from the St. Petersburg MAPS, the workshop introduced 14 faculty to a variety of evidence-based curricula and training materials addressing basic HIV/AIDS education, introduction of ART, PMTCT, and other key topics. The workshop also focused on effective pedagogical skills and the use of case studies and strengthened adult learning and interactive teaching skills of the participants.

A training on palliative care was provided by 2 experienced US faculty and 3 St. Petersburg practitioners from the ATEC-St. Petersburg clinical sites for Belarus care teams (total 18 participants). This course was funded by WHO-Belarus.

The ATEC-St. Petersburg, with funding from the Russian Health Care Foundation, implemented a local training on Initiation of ART for adults for 27 local HIV/AIDS specialists in Krasnodar Region. Two ATEC faculty and 2 faculty from the MAPS in Krasnodar conducted the training course in a follow up to the training of trainers held on November 7-14 in St Petersburg for twelve GFATM/RHCF regions.
May 16-18, 2007 -Orenburg
Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmisison of HIV (PMTCT) working meeting, UNICEF/TCS program
The meeting for 40 Russian participants from Orenburg and project rollout sites (Orsk, Novotroitsk and Gai) included discussion on coordination issues, barriers for PMTCT services, case management support after delivery, required normative support and systems of PMTCT monitoring in the oblast. One international PMTCT expert participated in the meeting, and also trained the participants in institution-based PMTCT resource needs assessments. The meeting was co-funded by UNICEF.

The ATEC-St. Petersburg, with funding from the Russian Health Care Foundation, implemented a local training on Initiation of ART for adults for 27 local HIV/AIDS specialists in Volgograd Region. Two ATEC faculty and 2 faculty from the MAPS in Volgograd conducted the training course in a follow up to the training of trainers held on November 7-14 in St Petersburg for twelve GFATM/RHCF regions.
May 28 - June 1 - Togliatti
Advanced ART training in Togliatti, GDA/AIDS Healthcare Foundation funding
One Russian and one international faculty conducted the 5-day course for 19 Russian participants from four Togliatti city policlinics at the City AIDS Center. The course was aimed at strengthening the capacity of primary level facilities to provide ARV treatment and care.

The EurasiaHealth AIDS Knowledge Network (EAKN) is a special initiative to identify key resources related to the care and treatment of HIV/AIDS and adapt and translate them for use by health professionals in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. The EAKN Library consists of a core set of textbooks and guidelines that have been developed by the world's leading experts on HIV/AIDS.
